5/9/16 Canton & 7 mountains

After a bit of a lie in (Henry slept for about 14 hrs we reckon) we set off to 7 mountains, Pennsylvania via Canton, Ohio.

Rog started off driving, and as it was his first time driving in the US (or recently at all) we had a few practice laps of the parking lot before setting off. Waheeeey! no accidents! so we hit the open road.

We had lunch in a nice diner in Canton where Sam and Henry were introduced to quesadillas. Rog and I were left wondering where they’ve been living for the past 23 years.

Then we parked at the NFL Hall of Fame. It was fairly pricey so only Sam and I went in, Rog and Henry walked in the direction of a nearby shop to get supplies for the evening.

The NFL HOF was sweet! We learned about the history of the football all the way from it’s humble beginnings to when Cleveland and Detroit were powerhouses of the game to today’s  modern league. We saw memorabilia from some of the greatest ever to play the game, and the busts of all those inducted into the hall.

They had a very hype 20 minute film presention that chronicled the 2015 season with the road to the playoffs and Denver’s eventual victory over Carolina in superbowl 50. All in all we really enjoyed it and wished we could have stayed longer.

As it was, we went to pick up the others who had found all the necessities for the campground. Of course when we went to check out we found that they only took cash and discover card (wtf), and their atm was broken. So we had to hunt down an atm and come back. Nice one Ohio.

By the time we sorted all this we were running behind, so we did not arrive at our campsite until after dark. We proceeded to set up the tent and cook dinner which actually went surprisingly well! Tuna pasta anyone?

The next morning the nice lady running the place gave us access to a cabin as we were practically the only ones there.  After packing up, we were off the New York!

5/8/16 Tough Mudder

This was it! The day we’d spent a month training for! Tough Mudder was finally here. Oh and that month we spent training? That month was January.

We woke up nice and early so we could get a solid carb load at the hotel breakfast. After a short drive to the mid ohio car racetrack and registration we were ready to go!

Now before I tell you about the event, let me describe a game we are playing on #trip. When anyone says the word “car” they must immediately (within reason) drop and do 5 pushups.
Considering that we were running on and around a car racetrack it was a very easy mistake to make! Picture Pel and Stencil doing extra pushups in the middle of the already challenging course.

We all had a good, but tiring time struggling through the 11 mile obstacle course. Some highlights include:

Running avross streams only to find a pile of mud the other side
Climbing over walls
Emerging through the birth canal unscathed
Henry having a friendly swim with the local scuba diver
Rog and Pel carrying a log clearly meant for 3 or 4 people
Energy bars more dense than a neutron star
Sam stumbling out of electroshock straight into more mud at the finish line
Post race beers and relaxing

Our post race meal was steak and shake, but they clearly were not prepared for tough mudder crowds as they ran out of shake mix and had to run to Walmart to get more!

Having a restful night, and heading to Pennsylvania tomorrow!

Ann Arbor

05/06/16 Overnight bus to Ann Arbor. Sam took out his phone at the border and had it confiscated.
Angry & intimidating officer: “Is that the only law you’re gonna break?!”
Sam: “Yes, just that one I think”

Met up with Pea Ham!! Lunch with Adam (Pea’s friend) at Tomuken – an amazing Korean BBQ restaurant. Then we picked up the car. Free upgrade to a ford explorer which is HUGE. See ya environment.
Escape rooms in the evening: 14 of us trapped in a room full of puzzles and challenges with an hour to escape. So much fun but sadly we didn’t make it – unbelievably close though! Then out to the Brown Jug followed by RICKS. All with Pel’s frienderinos! Lowlight: Sam bucking Henry off his back (highlight for Sam). Highlight: Tequila shots.

05/07/16 “Come on you Tigers!” Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers. Baseball baby. Unfortunately we lost (yes, I said  ‘we’) but the game was great. A lot less runs than us Brits expected – the final score being 10-5. Dinner and packing up and we set off on our travels! #trip
Thanks to the Barron family for having and feeding us in A2! Wish us luck for Tough Mudder tomorrow y’all… #wegonnadie #trainingwhattraining
